Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

The best way to make an appointment is to call me at 405-698-1762. Please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as I am able. I do not take calls when I am with a client, in a meeting, during training, or after 8:00 p.m.

How much will it cost?

Typical Counseling Costs:
The amount you will pay primarily depends on whether you have insurance. If your insurance has accepted me as a provider, the amount you pay is determined by your insurance company and may include a deductible, copay and/or co insurance. For those not using insurance, the standard fee for the initial consultation is $100, assessment and intake is $250.00 and each subsequent session is $150.00. You are responsible for paying at the time of your session unless prior arrangements have been made.

Typical Career/Life Coaching Costs:
Career/Life Coaching is not covered by insurance. Clients will typically complete a variety of assessments based on their personal goals. The charge for completing, evaluating and reviewing the initial assessments is $250. I do not charge for resume' critiques; however, I do charge $75/ hour for resume development (minimum of 2 hours), and $150/hour for additional career assessment reviews, job searches, report writing, consultations, and associated services requested by you.

Typical Court Related Costs:
If you anticipate becoming involved in a court case, please discuss this fully with me before you waive your right to confidentiality. If your case requires my participation, you will be expected to pay for my professional time, at the rate of $300 per hour, even if another party compels me to testify. This cost is not covered by insurance and $600 will be required in advance of the court date with the balance due within 30 days of my court appearance regardless of the outcome of the court proceedings. There are a variety of additional services I provide which are not typically covered by insurance. These professional services include report writing, telephone conversations that last longer than 15 minutes, attendance at meetings or consultations which you request, or the time required to perform any other service which you may request of me.

How do I pay for your services?

Payments can be made by cash, check, credit cards, debit cards or by using PAYPAL. Any payments returned to my office are subject to an additional fee of up to $35.00 to cover the bank fee that I incur. If you refuse to pay your debt, I reserve the right to use an attorney or collection agency to secure payment.

Are services confidential?

The information you share with me are kept confidential by me except under certain circumstances as defined by federal and Oklahoma Law, including applicable licensure regulations, the The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), 42 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 2, and applicable sections of 45 C.F.R. The exceptions to confidentiality include: situations in which it appears you intend to harm yourself or someone else, situations involving child or elder abuse, in the event of a specific court order, to consult with other medical and mental health professionals providing you care, or when you give me specific written permission to release your information.

Do you provide counseling by Skype, FaceTime, email, text messages, or phone?

Because of the high risk of compromise to you privacy and confidentiality rights I do not provide counseling using these communication tools at this time. When I am confident I can use these and meet client needs while maintaining confidentiality I may add these tools. I do not provide counseling services to individuals outside of the State of Oklahoma.

What are your qualifications?

I am Licensed as a Professional Counselor and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the State of Oklahoma with a private practice in Norman, OK. and a State Certified Supervisor for LADCs, LADC-MH and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADC). I have a Master of Science Degree in Counseling and Human Development from Radford University, Virginia. I am a United States Air Force Veteran.

I have over 30 years experience providing education and training in a variety of settings including in military, corporation, and university settings. I am also an Oklahoma Cognitive Behavioral Techniques Trainer, a member of the Oklahoma Cognitive Behavioral Techniques Steering Committee and a trained Problem and Compulsive Gambling Counselor. Additionally I am an Adjunct Instructor at Mid-America Christian University.

What can I expect at the first session?

Appointments will ordinarily be 50-60 minutes in duration, once per week at a time we agree on, although some sessions may be more or less frequent as needed.
Typically the first session includes completing paperwork and introducing our selves to each other. This is your opportunity to ask any questions you may have about counseling, the forms you complete and whether you can expect assistance with your specific situation.
Most people, who have never participated in counseling, feel uncomfortable or nervous when they first arrive and they typically leave the first session much more comfortable. I prefer to focus on the topics you wish to discuss. My counseling focus entails exploring what is causing you distress today and helping you to resolve the distress. Each time you meet with me, I hope to send you home with at least one tool or insight to manage or resolve your distress.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my session? What if I will be late for my session?

The time scheduled for your appointment is assigned to you and you alone. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask that you provide me with 48 hours notice. If you miss a session without canceling, or cancel with less than 48 hour notice, my policy is to collect the amount of your payment [unless we both agree that you were unable to attend due to circumstances beyond your control]. It is important to note that insurance companies do not provide reimbursement for cancelled sessions. If it is possible, I will try to find another time to reschedule the appointment. In addition, you are responsible for coming to your session on time; if you are late, your appointment will still need to end on time.
